PRAYER & PLEDGE

President Dale Field called the meeting to order asking PJ McHugh for the Prayer and Dan Mazurek for the Pledge.

One guest of Dan Mazurek Seth Berg from West Mont, very interested in becoming a member. Application has been provided.

No program today although Rick Schlenker asked to address the club. Rick is retiring from his Architecture firm and feels that he can no longer devote the time to the Exchange Club that it deserves, and as such is resigning from the club. Rick has been a member for 29 years and served as President of the Club in 1990. Rick will be missed and we wish him the best in his retirement years. (Please see attached letter of resignation, it should be shared with the whole club.)

PRAYER & PLEDGE

President Bill Northey called the meeting to order asking Marshall Price for the prayer and John Hilton for the pledge.

GUEST

Angela Azure and Carrie Krepps from the Florence Crittenton Home were our guests. First, Angela thanked the Club for our continued support of the Home. Carrie spoke of the abuse 90% of the girls have faced. The home is the only therapeutic maternity home in Montana and has been in existence for 111 years. They serve about 40 girls and their babies every year.
Marshall Price presented them with a check for $1,000 from the Club on behalf of Enterprise Foundation.

BUSINESS

  • The Club did the beer sales at the Roller Derby and Dirty Shame Concert on Saturday, May 21st. Steve reports we sold about 20 kegs which will net the Club $3,100.

  •  You Got Served was our guest on the 19th. This is from our guest Sonny Mazzullo

Thanks so much for having me today! The Exchange Club was a great audience, and that lasagna wasn't too shabby either. Your generous donation will go a long ways towards helping You Got Served. I look forward to keeping you guys informed of our summer program's progress. I was hoping you could pass along my contact information to everyone who was present today. I'd love to have some of the Exchange Club members share their career experiences with the students. Anyone that is interested in this can shoot me an email or give me a ring.

                                                        BUSINESS
    · There is still room to attend the dinner Friday or Saturday night at the District Convention. Let Steve know. The Club will cover the cost of the dinner. Please see the attached letter regarding the District ACE Award winner.
    · If you can help out at the hospitality room please email Lesley ASAP. We need people for the following shifts;
    Sunday from 11:00 to 1:00.
    · The Club will do the beer sales at the Roller Derby and Dirty Shame Concert on Saturday, May 21st. The shift will be from 5:30 to midnight. If you signed up please be there at 5:30 and wear your Exchange shirt.
    · At the Board meeting on Monday a $500 Grant was approved for You Got Served. They will do a presentation at lunch on the 19th. There is still an Officer position open. Please let Bill know if you are interested in the Vice President position.

President Elect Dale Field called the meeting to order asking PJ McHugh for the prayer and Mark Johnston for the pledge.


YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Jeff Springer presented the Youth of the Year Awards. He gave the back ground on the process of selecting the finalists from the monthly winners.
The $1,500 winner was Rebecca Harper from Helena High School. Her parents Steve Harper and Pam Campbell were in attendance. The two $750 winners were; Connor Campbell from Capital High School, son of Bruce and Chris Campbell who were guests. And Kaity Harrington, from Capital High School, daughter of John and Jasyn Harrington. John stated he did not participate in the selection process this year. Jeff thanked John Hilton for his work in choosing the students.

BUSINESS

· The District Exchange Convention will be held in Helena May 13th – 15th. The Club has a chance to participate in the events as well as greet the attendees and sponsor a hospitality room. Lesley emailed the Convention registration. A signup sheet was passed around for the hospitality room shifts. If you would like to get on the list please email Lesley. We need a few members for;

- Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 and from 9:00 to midnight.

- Saturday from 11:30 to 1:00, 4:00 to 6:00 and 10:00 to midnight

- Sunday from 11:00 to 1:00

- We have two people signed up so far and need a few for each shift.

· The Club will do the beer sales at the Roller Derby and Dirty Shame Concert on Saturday, May 21st. The shift will be from 5:30 to midnight. A signup sheet was passed around. If you would like to get on the list please email Lesley.

President Elect Dale Field called the meeting to order asking PJ McHugh for the prayer and Dan Mazurek for the pledge.

BUSINESS

· Elections were held. The three Board positions are being filled by Dan Mazurek, Steve Miles and John Schaffer. Officers are Jeff Springer - President Elect, vacant - Vice President, Betsy Rispens – Treasurer and Lesley Gallagher-Tolon – Secretary. They join Dale Field as President, Bill Northey as Past President and the three Board Members of Clyde Dailey, Pat Jupka and Dan Powell. The new term begins July 1, 2011.

· We had the second reading for potential new member Pat Call. His sponsor is Bill Northey.

David Smith, CEO with the YMCA was our guest. David gave us an update of what is going on at the Y. He spoke of Camp Child, the upcoming soccer season and the hope of expanding and improving their current location. The Club presented David with a check for $500 to be used for their Friends of Youth fund drive. Also, Marshall Price presented David with a check for $1,000 from the Club by way of Enterprise (Rent A Car) Foundation.

BUSINESS

· Elections are scheduled for April 7th. If you are interested in running for the Board (3 positions) or for President Elect, Vice President or Secretary please turn your name into Bill Northey.

ACE AWARD

Our ACE award winner was Riley Herrera. He was in need of a heart transplant at age 13 but was worried about not graduating with his class. In 2007 when he was 14, he received a new heart. Riley will be graduating with his class in June of this year. Walt Chancy, Assistant Principal from Capital High school spoke on Riley’s behalf. He was joined at lunch by his parents, Ron and Nina, his sister and Grandmother. We encouraged Riley to fill out an application for the District ACE Award. The Club presented Riley with a new I-Phone.

BUSINESS

President Bill Northey called the meeting to order.

ACE AWARD

Our ACE award winner was Emma Volesky. She has suffered from mental illness for more than 8 years and was terrified of large groups of people, including attending school. After some hospitalization when she was a freshman and getting the correct medication she is now attending school and will be graduating with honors this spring. She now is an advocate for others with mental illness and has done several public speaking engagements about the topic. She will be competing in a Speech competition in May in Billings where her speech will include the topic of mental illness. She was joined at lunch by her parents, Doug Volesky and Jonie Volesky, her two sisters, her niece, and her grandmother. As well as 3 representatives from the school and her good friend, Stephanie Waddington. Mary Anderson, formerly of Helena High School and now at CRAnderson spoke on Emma's behalf. We encouraged Emma to fill out an application for the District ACE Award.

BUSINESS

· The Blizzard Tour Concert, featuring Nelly – Steve reported our income was $5,618.40 after all expenses were deducted. Overall sales were over $14,000.

· Elections are tentatively scheduled for April 14th. If you are interested in running for the Board or for President Elect, Vice President or Secretary please turn your name into Bill Northey.

BUSINESS

  • The Blizzard Tour Concert, featuring Nelly, is at the Fairgrounds, next Wednesday, March 9th. The signup sheet is attached. If you signed up and can’t make it please let Lesley know.
  • Please remember this is a fund raising event for the Club so same rules as Stampede. Please don’t give beers away. Club members can purchase tokens at half price and then you can use a token to purchase a beer for your friends, family co-workers etc.

  • Club Members please make sure your guest is aware of the beer pouring and serving rules. Because the crowd has the potential of being of mixed age groups, an ID station will be set up. You can always re-check someone’s ID if you are not sure.
     
  • Please be there at 5:00 to set up and wear your Exchange shirt. The doors open at 5:30. If you need to leave early (or arrive late) please check with someone

  • There have been 3200 tickets sold so far. Please rotate stations so the same Members aren’t stuck doing the money/tokens or the ID station all night.

ACE AWARD

 

Our ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award winner from PAL was Braxton KuKay. Several family members were in attendance as well as Principal Craig Crawford and teacher Marie Rauch. The ACE Award recognizes High School students who have made a dramatic change in attitude and/or performance in school, or have overcome a great physical or social obstacle. The ACE Award is a positive program designed to help encourage students to overcome problems and obstacles, while getting back on track towards a High School Diploma and beyond. The Club awarded Braxton with a new guitar.

BUSINESS

· There will be a Blizzard Tour Concert, featuring Nelly, on Mach 9th at the Fairgrounds. The Club will be sponsoring the beer sales. A signup sheet was passed around. Please be there at 5:00 to set up and wear your Exchange shirt. The doors open at 5:30.

· Helena will host the District Exchange Convention in May. The Club will need to host a hospitality room. Details to follow.

· We scheduled a Rush Night for the hockey game on February 26th. Please invite any potential new members to the event. Game time is 7:30 but you can show up early.

BUSINESS

We had the first reading for two potential new members; Merida Stover sponsored by Dan Powell and Casey Massengale sponsored by Brad Cozzie.

 Martin gave a report on the two teams the Club sponsored for the Bowl for Kids Sake. The teams raised over $1,500 which is enough to pay for one match for a year. The total amount Big Brothers Big Sisters raised for the weekend was $100,000.

 There will be a Blizzard Tour Concert, featuring Nelly, on Mach 9th at the Fairgrounds. The Club will be doing the beer sales. A signup sheet was passed around.

 Helena will host the District Exchange Convention in May. The Club will need to host a hospitality room. Details to follow.

Montana Supreme Court Justice, Brian Morris was our guest speaker. Brian gave us a background on a few cases they are working on as well as a brief description of how the Supreme Court operates.

BUSINESS

There is a Blizzard Tour Concert, featuring Nelly, on Mach 9th at the Fairgrounds. The Club will be doing the beer sales. A signup sheet was passed around.

 Helena will host the District Exchange Convention in May. The Club will need to host a hospitality room. Details to follow.

 We are scheduling a Rush night for an upcoming hockey game. If you have ideas for potential members this will be the event to invite them to. Date to follow.

 After the final numbers are in, the Festival of Wines netted $9,516.

BUSINESS

The Christmas Party (after Christmas Party) will be held Friday, January 7th at the Green Meadow Country Club. Cocktails starting at 6:00, Dinner at 7:00. Please email Dale Field at dfield@amfedsb.com today if you want on the list.

We had the second reading for potential new member Todd Kuxhaus. His sponsor is Dan Powell.

The Coats for Kids program has distributed 135 coats this year. The Board approved to try to do 175 this year. Thanks to Betsy and the committee for their work on this project.

The Board approved two teams for the Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters in January. Martin needs five to eight bowlers for the teams. Please contact him if interested.
